Para 28 : All this can be seen, but we need analysis in order to see what is at stake a little more closely. That is, to see how it happens that each time, for whatever reason, the fetish gives way, exhausts itself, gets used up, simply gives out. What we see in romantic behaviour, and more simply in the erotic relations of the subject, comes down to a defense. You can verify this by reading, in the International Journal, the observations of Ms. Sylvia Payne, Mr. Gillespie, Ms. Greenacre, Mr. Dugmore Hunter, or in the Psychoanalytic of the Child.

Dugmore Hunter was a consultant psychiatrist at the Tavistock Clinic, London from 1948 until his retirement in 1977. Hunter trained in medicine at Edinburgh University & his early teaining in psychiatry was also Edinburgh. In Army psychiatry from 1942 to 1946 Hunter met several distinguished psychiatrists who were to form the nucleus of the postwar Tavistock Clinic. On serving as corps psychiatrist to 10th Corps in Italy, Dugmore Hunter was awarded the MBE for outstanding service to psychiatry in the field, work which consisted of providing early forward psychiatric treatment that prevented many people with active breakdowns in battle from suffering chronic psychiatric disablement later in their lives. Trained and qualified as a psychoanalyst during the early part of his long service at the Tavistock Clinic, Hunter was elected to membership of the British Psychoanalytical Society in 1953 after reading his classic paper, “Object Relations Changes in the Analysis of a Fetishist”. In Footnote 2, Clifford Scott & Melanie Klein are acknowledged as the influences on his formation as an analyst. W. Clifford M. Scott (March 11, 1903 – January 19, 1997) was a Canadian psychoanalyst. He was briefly president of the British Psychoanalytical Society in 1953, and subsequently became the first president of the Canadian Psychoanalytical Society. He was one of Melanie Klein’s analysands.
